FOURTH-QUARTER UPDATE: Brewton hauled in a 30-yard TD pass from Gunn to trim the deficit to 41-27 with 5:03 left in the fourth, but that’s as close as Union got to the Rams.
THIRD-QUARTER UPDATE: Early in the third quarter, Thompson picked off a pass at the Union 44. On the next play, he raced 40 yards to the 4. Three plays later, A.J. Crider scored on a one-yard run for a 35-14 lead.
Thompson found the end zone again, this time on a 26-yard run, to give the guests a 41-14 lead with three seconds left in the third.
Union's Garrison Bell returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown to trim the deficit to 41-20 at the end of the half.
SECOND-QUARTER UPDATE: Quae’Shawn Thompson provided another big play for South Side as he returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown 11 seconds into the second quarter. That gave the guests a 21-7 edge.
The Scotties answered with a touchdown of their own. They went 63 yards and got to the 1. After two failed rushing attempts, Gary Brewton crashed in from the 1 to trim the deficit to 21-14 with 7:29 left in the half.
The Rams cashed in on their next drive as Thompson went up the middle 28 yards for a touchdown and a 28-14 lead with 5:16 left.
Union drove at the end of the first half, but an interception at the South Side 2 ended the threat with 20 seconds left.
FIRST-QUARTER UPDATE: South Side Beaver took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards for a score. Matt Roach hauled in a 13-yard pass from Robbie Heberle for the 7-0 lead with 9:29 left in the first quarter.
Union answered with a 56-yard touchdown drive of its own. Joe Gunn hit Jordan Best for a 23-yard pass to keep the drive alive. Best capped it with a four-yard TD dash for a 7-all tie with 3:58 to go.
The Rams scored on their second drive. Heberle hit Roach on a crossing pattern. He shrugged off a tackler and rambled 43 yards for the score with 1:28 left.
