Written: Oct 09, 2009
FOURTH-QUARTER UPDATE: Ellwood rallied to trim the deficit to six points, but Upham's second touchdown run — this one from 79 yards — sealed Mohawk's victory. Ellwood's scores came on an 87-yard run by Jared Feit and a 77-yard pass from Gino Ceriani to Codey Hunter.
THIRD-QUARTER UPDATE: Colin Bredl scored twice as Mohawk opened a 20-point lead entering the final 12 minutes. Bredl caught a 14-yard pass from Johnny Beatty on a fourth-and-goal with 5:09 remaining, then raced 41 yards with a shovel pass from Beatty for a score, one play after an Ellwood punt.
SECOND-QUARTER UPDATE: Justin Upham's 1-yard plunge with 37 seconds remaining capped a 3-play, 4-yard drive, giving Mohawk the halftime lead. After Ellwood missed a 29-yard field goal with 5:12 remaining, Mohawk drove to the Ellwood 1 before fumbling. Two plays later, Ellwood fumbled the ball back to Mohawk.
FIRST-QUARTER UPDATE: Both defenses and some soggy playing conditions dominated the opening 12 minutes of play. On both of its drives, Ellwood penetrated Mohawk territory, but both marches stalled at the 39-yard line.
