Spartans get first win for Cooper

The Laurel High football team has a win under its belt.
It is the first for first-year Spartans coach Brian Cooper.
Jake McDougal rushed for 93 yards and passed for 98 more in a 38-0 Midwestern Athletic Conference rout of visiting Freedom last night.
Laurel improved to 1-2, both in the MAC and overall. The Bulldogs are 0-3 and 0-3.
Noah Wertz got things started for the Spartans with a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter. McDougal’s 63-yard run and Wertz’s first of five extra-point kicks put Laurel up 10-0.
McDougal added a 1-yard run to put the Spartans ahead 17-0 at the half.
Matty Conway put the game out of reach with runs of 62 and 2 yards in the third quarter. Chris Peluso closed out the scoring in the fourth with a 6-yard scamper.
McDougal rushed for 93 yards on seven carries and Conway was right behind with 90 yards on nine tries. Chris Peluso came in with 66 yards on eight totes as Laurel racked up 302 yards net rushing.
McDougal connected on 3 of 7 passes.
Laurel hosts Derry on Friday night.
