Injuries again prove costly to 'Hounds

Injuries continue to prove costly for the Wilmington High football team.
The Greyhounds, who have battled injuries all season and have several key players out for the year, turned to freshmen and sophomores in a 42-6 District 10, nonregion loss to visiting Hickory.
Wilmington is now 4-3, while the Hornets improved to 6-1.
The Greyhounds managed just five first downs to Hickory’s 26, had just 54 yards net rushing to the winners’ 329 and finished with a 457-113 deficit in total yards.
The Hornets went up 21-0 at halftime before Wilmington scored its first touchdown on an 11-yard run by quarterback Spencer DeMedal.
Freshman Noah Hunt led the ‘Hounds with 36 yards on three carries.
Wilmington hosts Lakeview at 7 p.m. Friday.
