BEAVER — The Laurel High football team’s shot at the playoffs came to an end last night.
Beaver held the Spartans’ Dylan Jones to 38 yards rushing in a 36-0 Midwestern Athletic Conference victory.
Jones came in leading Lawrence County in rushing with 984 yards.
Laurel (3-4 conference, 3-5 overall) was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. Even with a victory, the Spartans would have come up short because Ellwood City Lincoln (5-2, 6-2) claimed the final postseason berth out of the MAC with its 31-28 victory over Beaver Falls.
Beaver came in ranked No. 5 in the WPIAL in Class AA by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Curt Lanctot broke a scoreless battle in the second quarter with a 14-yard scoring run. Christian Herstine added a 17-yard touchdown run for the Bobcats (6-1, 7-1) for a 14-0 halftime bulge.
Brandon Ritchie led Laurel in rushing with 59 yards. He was 3 of 6 through the air for 14 yards as well.
The Spartans close the season at 7 p.m. Friday when they host Mohawk in a MAC matchup. Laurel has lost its last two games by a combined score of 43-0. The Wolverines blanked the Spartans the previous week, 7-0.
