'Good' not good enough for Union

Written: Nov 01, 2011 at 7:05 AM
Union finished 2-7 and riding a five-game losing streak. It’s the fourth straight year the Scotties failed to win at least three games.

Despite the dismal mark, Union was competitive in Big Seven Conference play, especially down the stretch. In the last four games — all in conference — the Scotties lost to Neshannock (13-12), Shenango (27-22) and Western Beaver (16-13) on Friday. Sandwiched in that stretch was a 40-0 loss to Cornell.

“We were right there, but we have to get over that threshold,” Union coach Stacy Robinson said. “We have to work harder. You win your games January through August and we have to make a commitment to get it done.

“We’ve got some good football players here, but sometimes good isn’t what it takes. You have to be better. You have to be great.” — Ron Poniewasz Jr.
