THE MATCHUP: Shenango at Union, 7 p.m. today

LAST WEEK: Shenango (1-4, 2-4) beat Riverview 35-14; Union (1-4, 2-4) lost to Sto-Rox 56-14.

KEY PLAYERS: Shenango: Evan Kendall, So., QB/DB, 6-2, 170; Tyler Welsh, Sr., RB/DB, 5-10, 150; Anthony Prestopine, Sr., RB/LB, 5-7, 170.

Union: Anthony Rush, Jr., QB/DB, 5-9, 165; Jordan Best, So., RB/DB, 5-8, 180; Kody Smith, Sr., G/LB, 5-9, 195.

WHAT TO WATCH: Union has lost three straight games. Shenango’s win last week snapped a two-game losing streak. Union won last year’s matchup, 33-7, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Tonight’s game will be a Pink-Out event between the schools.

THE MATCHUP: Ellwood City at Aliquippa, 7 p.m. today

LAST WEEK: Ellwood City (2-3, 3-3) lost to Mohawk 24-21 (OT); Aliquippa (4-0, 6-0) beat Freedom 49-7.

WHAT TO WATCH: Aliquippa’s Dravon Henry is being recruited by Pitt, West Virginia and Ohio State. The Quips are ranked No. 1 in Class AA in the WPIAL by the Post-Gazette and No. 1 in the state poll as well. Ellwood City needs a win to stay in playoff contention.

LAST WEEK: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (3-3, 3-3) beat South Side Beaver 26-18; Neshannock (5-1, 5-1) beat Rochester 52-20.

WHAT TO WATCH: Neshannock is ranked No. 3 in the WPIAL in Class A by the Post-Gazette. The Lancers won the only other meeting between the teams, 47-14, last year.

LAST WEEK: Sharpsville (4-2) beat West Middlesex 20-12; Wilmington (4-2) beat Reynolds 20-7.

WHAT TO WATCH: This is a District 10, nonregion matchup. The Blue Devils are a Class A school. Sharpsville won last year’s battle, 20-14. It was the first meeting since 1997. Josiah Bloise leads Wilmington in rushing with 383 yards on 67 carries.

THE MATCHUP: Mohawk at Beaver, 7 p.m. today

LAST WEEK: Mohawk (3-2, 3-3) beat Ellwood City 24-21 (OT); Beaver (2-2, 4-2) beat Riverside 62-29.

KEY PLAYERS: Mohawk: Gio Menichino, Sr., QB/DB, 5-11, 157; Shane McFarland, Sr., RB/DB, 5-9, 175; Chad Hogue, Jr., OL/DL, 6-3, 316.

Beaver: Alex Rowse, Sr., QB/DB, 6-2, 170; Luke Scheidemantel, Jr., RB/LB, 5-10, 185; Mike Podvorec, Sr., WR/LB, 6-2, 165.

WHAT TO WATCH: This game has major playoff implications. Mohawk holds the fourth and final playoff spot in the Midwestern Athletic Conference. But Beaver is right behind the Warriors in fifth place. The Warriors’ Shane McFarland ranks third in the county in rushing.

THE MATCHUP: West Allegheny at New Castle, 7:30 p.m. today

LAST WEEK: West Allegheny (5-0, 6-0) beat Steel Valley 55-14; New Castle (4-1, 5-1) beat Blackhawk 46-42.

WHAT TO WATCH: New Castle reached five wins for the first time since 2011. The Red Hurricane last won six games in 2009. West Allegheny is ranked No. 2 in the WPIAL in Class AAA by the Post-Gazette.

LAST WEEK: Laurel (4-1, 5-1) beat Western Beaver 49-6; Rochester (2-3, 2-4) lost to Neshannock 52-20.

WHAT TO WATCH: Rochester is coached by 1981 Shenango High graduate Gene Matsook. Matsook’s Rams haven’t lost more than four games in a season during his 14 seasons at the helm. Laurel is in third place in the Big Seven Conference.

THE MATCHUP: Western Beaver at Laurel, 7 p.m. today

LAST WEEK: Western Beaver (3-1, 3-2) beat Rochester 50-6; Laurel (3-1, 4-1) beat Union 20-19.

KEY PLAYERS: Western Beaver: Steve Robison, Sr., QB/DB, 5-10, 150; Hunter Roknich, Jr., RB/DB, 5-9, 165; Nick Miller, Sr., WR/DB, 6-2, 170.

Laurel: Josh Dando, Sr., QB/DB, 6-4, 180; Matty Conway, Jr., RB/LB, 5-6, 165; Spencer Pullium, Sr., TE/LB, 5-11, 180.

WHAT TO WATCH: This is a key matchup in the Big Seven Conference. The teams are tied for third place in the league. Laurel won last year’s meeting, 38-19. The Spartans’ Josh Dando ranks second in the county in passing with 443 yards. He’s thrown seven touchdowns with an interception.

LAST WEEK: Union (1-3, 2-3) lost to Laurel 20-19; Sto-Rox (4-0, 5-0) beat Northgate 58-0.

WHAT TO WATCH: Sto-Rox, which is ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL in Class A by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, has shut out its last two opponents. The Vikings have scored 112 points in those two wins. Sto-Rox, which beat Union in the WPIAL playoffs last year, later lost in the district title game to Clairton, 58-21.

LAST WEEK: Rochester (2-2, 2-3) lost to Western Beaver 50-6; Neshannock (4-1, 4-1) beat South Side Beaver 50-12.

WHAT TO WATCH: This is a nonconference matchup. Shenango won last year’s meeting, 22-15. Wildcats quarterback Brian Tanner is out with a broken collarbone and 6-foot-2, 170-pound sophomore Evan Kendall will make the start under center.

WHAT TO WATCH: The teams are tied for the fourth and final WPIAL Class AA playoff spot in the Midwestern Athletic Conference. Both teams have just two conference games remaining after this matchup. Ellwood City’s Jared Meyers leads the county in rushing with 740 yards.

WHAT TO WATCH: This is a key clash in the race for a District 10, Region 3-AA playoff spot. Wilmington has won the last seven meetings by a combined score of 324-7. Six of those victories are by shutout.

LAST WEEK: New Castle (3-1, 4-1) beat Chartiers Valley 47-12; Blackhawk (1-3, 1-4) lost to Beaver 49-27.

WHAT TO WATCH: Blackhawk’s senior quarterback Chandler Kincade has committed to Akron. New Castle is in fourth place in the Parkway Conference standings. Five teams qualify for the WPIAL playoffs in Class AAA.
