Ellwood City falls short against Valley

The Ellwood City Lincoln High football team had a chance to pick up its first win of the season Friday night.
But the Wolverines simply couldn't capitalize.
Ellwood nearly matched Valley statistically, but came out on the short end of a 20-12 non-conference loss on homecoming night at Ewing Park's Helling Stadium.
The Wolverines are now 0-5 overall. The Vikings improved to 3-2.
Valley led in first down 8-7 and the teams were tied in net rushing, 147-147. The Vikings held a 122-72 edge in passing.
Valley led 14-0 at the half. Toby Kelly got Ellwood back into the game with a 59-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
The Wolverines pulled to within 14-12 in the fourth quarter on a 54-yard pass from Jordan Recce to Luca Botti.
The Vikings added a little insurance on a touchdown with 2:12 left.
Ellwood drove to the Valley 45 when it ran out of downs in the final seconds.
Kelly led the Wolverines in rushing with 104 yards on 13 carries.
Recce was 6 of 24 for 72 yards. Botti caught four passes for 71 yards.
