The Wilmington High football team took care of business Friday night.
And now it's showdown time.
The Greyhounds set themselves up for a long-awaited battle against fellow unbeaten Hickory with a 35-0 District 10, Region 2-AA rout of visiting Greenville.
Both teams will put 6-0 conference and 7-0 overall records on the line when Wilmington travels to the Hornets' field next Friday night.
The win over Greenville was the 295th of the storied career of Greyhounds coach Terry Verrelli.
Wilmington led 21-0 after one quarter. Spencer DeMedal started things off with a 56-yard touchdown run. Cameron Marett added a 16-yard TD run and Bryson Verrelli, the coach's grandson, hauled in a 51-yard scoring strike from DeMedal. Jacob Winters added all three point-after kicks.
Cameron Marett's 4-yard run gave the Greyhounds some insurance in the second quarter and his brother, Colton Marett, took a 14-yard pass from Reese Bender to send Wilmington to the locker room with a 35-0 lead at the half and close out the scoring.
Bender was 5 of 8 through the air for 61 yards. Bryson Verrelli had four receptions for 86 yards.
DeMedal rushed for 97 yards on nine carries.
